Equity and Access to Assistive and Rehabilitation Technology
Assistive and rehabilitation technologies are rapidly developing and proliferating with great promise to enhance activity performance, participation in social and community life, and well-being. Benefits of these technologies cannot be realized for everyone if access is limited and inequitable for some. This talk will discuss learnings from our research in Canada on enhancing equitable access to assistive technology and explore opportunities for collaboration locally, regionally, and globally to facilitate access to beneficial technologies.
The Future of Healthcare
Join us to hear Dr. Zayna Khayat, a healthcare future strategist and VP of Client Success & Growth at Teladoc Health Canada, discuss the future of healthcare. Zayna will reflect on what these shifts mean for rehab therapy, and will provide a call to action for rehab therapists to reimagine how they train, practice and lead in the future of healthcare. Innovation Through Collaboration
A home is expected to be the place where individuals live their best lives and get to age in place. We all also know that a home does not necessarily evolve as the individual's needs change and in this talk you will hear about the importance of 'health of the home' with a lens on technology. We will also cover some of the challenges in the way of introducing technology in a vulnerable living space and thoughts on how to overcome them through collaboration.

LIVE - Leveraging Technology to Humanize Healthcare
This talk will review important elements of human connection in healthcare. It will also review examples of technology being used successfully (and unsuccessfully) to strengthen therapeutic rapport and therapeutic alliance. It will then cover everyday, common, tools available for most clinicians and strategies to implement them in a way that build human connection.
Creating Meaningful Connections in a Virtual World
Connecting with people is a skill we use on a daily basis, both personally and professionally. The pandemic has allowed for significant growth in the depth of our connections and network in the virtual space. However the virtual world does not come without challenges such as filters, frozen connections, and distractions that can contribute to missed moments. This talk will look to provide clarity to building rapport in a virtual world, help clinicians identify signs of disengagement, and provide strategies for creating meaningful interactions.

Game On! Therapeutic Gaming For the Win!
More than 3 billion people worldwide play video games. In the United States (U.S.), more than 200 million people play video games. Of those, 46 million people have a disability. Seventy-five percent of U.S. households have at least one person who plays video games. Sixty-five percent of people who play video games, play with others. Through discussion and use case videos we’ll explore therapeutic and adaptive gaming, connect therapeutic gaming with therapeutic goals, and demonstrate how to integrate evidence-based strategies with therapeutic gaming in rehabilitation.
Advancing the Academic Curriculum: A Panel Discussion
Does the introduction of exoskeletons change how we conduct physical assessments? Can technology change how we conduct home assessments? How can we introduce students to 3-D printing? How can we include the discussion of big data into our curriculum? How do we thread the discussion of technology throughout our programs versus a technology course?
This session moderated by Dr. Kathryn Wise, OTD will provide an opportunity for educators from various universities in North America and representing the rehabilitation professions to discuss the future of our curriculum in response to changing technology.
